What Is 2XKO and How Does It Work?

2XKO is a 2v2 tag-team fighting game built around League of Legends champions. Each player controls two characters, one on the field (your "point") and one on standby (your "assist"). The goal is to eliminate both of your opponent's champions before they do the same to you.

At its core, the combat follows a familiar fighting game structure - Light, Medium, and Heavy attacks chain together, with Special moves branching off at the end. What sets 2XKO apart is the tag mechanic: you can call your assist character in at almost any time, extending combos, covering your position, or creating mix-ups your opponent can't easily read.

Key terms to know:

• Point character – The champion actively fighting on screen.

• Assist character – Your standby partner, callable for support actions.

• Handshake Tag – Tagging your assist in during a combo to swap them to point.

• Fuse – A team modifier chosen at champion select that changes how your duo interacts.

• Pulse Combo – An auto-combo toggle (on by default) that performs sequences when you repeatedly press L, M, or H.

Controls and Input Basics

2XKO supports gamepads, fight sticks, arcade controllers, and keyboard. The default layout works well for most players, but the settings menu lets you rebind everything and test your inputs before a match.

The universal combo structure that works on every champion is:

Light → Medium → Heavy → Special

This is your bread-and-butter string. From here, you can extend with an assist call, then tag in your partner to continue pressure.

Core movement options:

The dash is your most important neutral tool - practice wave dashing early to control space fluidly. The Down + Heavy anti-air is universal and works against every champion's jump, so get comfortable using it instinctively.

Understanding Fuses: Choose the Right Modifier

Fuses are selected after you lock in your champions and cannot be changed mid-match. Your choice fundamentally shapes how your team plays, so new players should understand each option before committing.

Beginner recommendation: Start with Juggernaut if you want to learn one champion deeply without managing a tag system. If you're ready for the full 2v2 experience from day one, Double Down is the most impactful and easiest fuse to use - just finish your combos with both characters' Supers.

Avoid Freestyle until you're comfortable with both your champions' full move sets. Its double Handshake Tag creates devastating mix-ups but demands tight timing and deep character knowledge.

Choosing Your First Champions

The current roster spans 15 champions at launch. Don't agonize over tier lists at this stage - pick based on playstyle feel and visual appeal. You'll improve faster with a character you enjoy.

Best starter picks for beginners:

Darius

Straightforward heavy hitter. Big, readable attacks with strong mid-range pressure. Excellent for learning the fundamentals without execution barriers.

Ahri	Mobile with solid zoning. Her movement makes her forgiving when you misposition, and her projectiles cover a wide area.

Ekko	Versatile with time-rewind mechanics that can cover mistakes. A strong option once you're past the basics.

Braum

Sturdy defensive option with reliable assists, good for team-building.

Braum – Sturdy defensive option with reliable assists, good for team-building.

When building your duo, think about range coverage (pair a close-range brawler with a zoning character), assist synergy (pick assists that extend your combos), and matchup coverage (choose a partner who handles your main's weaknesses).

Combo Fundamentals and Tag Mechanics

The simplest damage route that works at every level:

1. Basic String: L → M → H
2. Special Cancel: L → M → H → Special Move
3. Assist Extension: Special Move → Call Assist → L → M → H
4. Tag Combo: Assist → Handshake Tag → L → M → H

Once you're landing step 2 consistently, add step 3 by calling your assist right after a Special. Your assist attacks, you follow up with another string, and the combo extends naturally.

Two universal tools worth drilling immediately:

• Charged Heavy into Dash Cancel – A strong offensive mechanic that applies to every champion.
• Ground Bounce moves – Check which of your champion's attacks hit downed opponents, as these feed into extended juggles.

Defensive Mechanics Every Beginner Needs

Retreating Guard (Dash while blocking) slides you backward while maintaining your block. Use it after absorbing a few hits once your opponent's low attacks are spent — it's your safest escape from pressure.

Parrying costs one meter bar but refunds it on success. Parries beat gaps between multi-hit strings and lead to full combo punishes. Look for pauses in your opponent's blockstrings.

Push Block (costs one meter) creates space when you're cornered. Use it deliberately rather than as a panic option - meter spent here is meter not available for Supers.

Wake-up options: When knocked down, hold any Special Move input to perform a wake-up attack. It's punishable on block but stops opponents from looping pressure on your recovery.

Air Tech: During air combos, hold any attack button to tech out early. You land with frame advantage, often allowing a counter-hit.
