Clash Royale July 2026 Meta Decks Guide: Season 85

Season 85's balance changes hit Hero cards hard while buffing P.E.K.K.A, Ram Rider, and more. Here's how the meta shifts and which decks come out on top after the July 6 patch.

The Patch That Finally Reins In Heroes

Season 85 kicked off on July 6, 2026, and the balance changes that came with it tell a clear story: Supercell is done letting Hero cards dominate the ladder. Four of the biggest names in the meta — Hero Knight, Hero Magic Archer, Hero Goblins, and Hero Balloon — all took hits, while underused cards like P.E.K.K.A, Ram Rider, and Electro Giant got buffs to claw their way back into relevance. Add the brand-new Ronin card into the mix, and the early Season 85 meta is genuinely up for grabs.

If you've been running a hero-heavy deck and suddenly feel like your win rate is slipping, you're not imagining it. This guide breaks down exactly what changed, how the meta shifts as a result, and which decks are best positioned to climb after the patch.

Let's break down the changes.

Season 85 Balance Changes Breakdown

Before we get to decks, here's what actually changed. Understanding the direction of each change is what lets you predict where the meta goes.

The Nerfs

Hero Knight — Shield HP reduced. He's been the best Hero in the game for a long stretch, getting value in nearly every match, so this pullback was overdue. That said, losing some shield HP probably isn't enough to fully push him out of the meta.

Hero Magic Archer — Teleport range cut by roughly 20% (from 5 tiles back to 4), plus a range reduction on his Triple Threat Shot. He was frustrating to face because he could sneak out of tough spots so easily — now he's much easier to catch. Expect a chunk of players to swap him out.

Hero Goblins — Adjusted because they've been overshadowing other swarm options and were the common thread across several of the strongest decks. The Banner Brigade is now easier to react to.

Hero Balloon — Its second nerf in a row, following June's landing damage reduction. This time the Skeletrooper landing damage drops 20%, meaning several troops can no longer be cleared with a landing plus two hits.

Evo Executioner — Close Quarters range and damage cut; it will no longer outrange dragons. This tones down one of the strongest defensive Evolutions, though it keeps its signature knockback.

Miner — Crown Tower damage reduced. After the recent blanket spell tower-damage nerf, Miner had taken over Ranked, so this makes him less efficient at chipping towers while leaving his troop interactions intact.

The Buffs

P.E.K.K.A — Damage buff that lets her one-shot certain mid-HP troops she previously couldn't. A meaningful nudge for a tank that's been left in the shadows by other options.

Ram Rider — Buffed to connect with Crown Towers more reliably, since she's been replaced by other Ram and Rider cards in most meta decks. Whether this makes her meta-defining or just playable depends on how it plays out.

Electro Giant — Extra hitpoints on top of his recent rework, giving him the durability to be a more consistent offensive threat.

Evo Baby Dragon — Base form buffed since it's been underperforming, with Supercell watching the Evolution closely.

Tomb Queen — Adjusted to address the clunky nature of her 6-Elixir ability, aiming to finally bring the card to life.

The Rework

Hero Tombstone — Getting a full rework of its Regal Revival ability. It loses its Skeleton spawns but gains HP, which should help the Skeleton Queen survive long enough to make an impact. A rework is bigger than a stat tweak — it can change what the card is for, so expect its whole archetype to shift.

How the Meta Shifts After Season 85

Now for the important part: what all these changes actually mean for the decks you'll be facing and playing.

Heroes Take a Coordinated Step Back

Four Hero and Evolution cards getting nerfed in the same patch is not a coincidence. Heroes have been the strongest power spike in the game since they launched, and a coordinated pullback like this usually signals Supercell is worried Heroes are crowding out non-hero decks — not reacting to one specific card.

The practical result: the early Season 85 meta should open up for decks built around Evolutions and normal cards rather than stacked Hero lineups. If you've been priced out of the meta because you don't have the meta Heroes maxed, this is your window.

Beatdown Gets a Quiet Boost

With P.E.K.K.A and Electro Giant both buffed, heavy beatdown archetypes get more viable. P.E.K.K.A's damage buff in particular makes her a stronger defensive anchor and win condition — but there's a catch, which brings us to the new card.

Ronin Complicates Melee Strategies

Season 85's headline addition, Ronin, is a 5-Elixir Legendary built to beat every melee troop 1v1 through his Parry Damage mechanic. His presence in the meta means melee-heavy beatdown decks — including those newly-buffed P.E.K.K.A lists — have to respect Ronin as a hard counter. This creates a rock-paper-scissors dynamic where beatdown is stronger but also has a dedicated new answer roaming the ladder.

Miner Bait and Chip Decks Cool Off

With Miner's Crown Tower damage nerfed, the chip-and-bait decks that leaned on him to close games lose some of their edge. Expect fewer pure Miner chip decks and more emphasis on decks that can win through troop damage rather than nickel-and-diming the tower.

Best Decks After the Balance Changes

Based on the direction of the changes, here are the archetypes best positioned to climb in the Season 85 meta. Keep in mind that ladder data takes a week or two to fully settle, so treat these as strong starting points and adjust as the meta crystallizes.

Evolution-Based Non-Hero Decks

With Heroes pulled back across the board, decks that lean on strong Evolutions instead of Hero cards gain relative power. Evo Baby Dragon in particular got a buff, making it a more attractive inclusion. If you've been running Evolution-focused lists, now's the time to lean in — you're facing weaker Hero decks than last season.

P.E.K.K.A Bridge Spam and Beatdown

P.E.K.K.A's damage buff makes her a stronger backbone for both bridge spam and beatdown. She now cleanly removes certain mid-HP troops in a single swing, improving her defensive value before you transition to offense. Just be mindful of Ronin on the other side — pair P.E.K.K.A with ranged or air support so you're not helpless when a Ronin shows up.

Ronin Control Decks

The new card itself is a strong pickup for decks that struggle against beatdown but don't want to commit a full counter-push card. A single Ronin flips a losing melee 1v1 into a win. Build around him with anti-air and swarm-clear support to cover his weaknesses to air and ranged units, and you've got a flexible control shell for the new season.

Ram Rider Bridge Spam (Watch This One)

If Ram Rider's buff proves substantial, she could return as a real bridge-spam and bait tool rather than a niche pick. Her improved Crown Tower connection makes her more threatening on offense. This is the archetype most worth experimenting with early — if the buff lands, you'll be ahead of the curve.

How to Pick Your Season 85 Deck

Not sure which direction to go? Here's a quick framework:

1. If you own strong Evolutions — lean into Evolution-based non-hero decks while Heroes are weakened
2. If you like tanks — P.E.K.K.A beatdown got a real buff, just cover the Ronin matchup
3. If you face a lot of beatdown — Ronin control gives you a clean melee answer
4. If you want to be ahead of the meta — experiment with buffed Ram Rider before everyone else catches on

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Sticking With a Now-Nerfed Hero Deck

If your deck leaned on Hero Knight, Hero Magic Archer, or Hero Balloon, don't assume it plays the same. These cards still function, but their reduced power means you may need to adjust your game plan or swap pieces. Test your win rate rather than assuming it held.

Ignoring Ronin in Deckbuilding

Whether you run melee or not, Ronin is now a factor on ladder. If your deck is melee-heavy, make sure you have a ranged, air, or swarm answer so a single Ronin can't hard-counter your entire push.

Overreacting to Buffs Before Data Settles

Buffs like Ram Rider's are exciting, but a buff on an underused card sometimes just makes it playable rather than meta-defining. Give the ladder a week to generate real win-rate data before committing hard to a newly-buffed archetype.

Treating WIP Numbers as Final

The final Season 85 changes went live shortly after the July 6 season start, adjusted from the June 24 preliminary notes based on player feedback. Always play around the live patch, not the early leaked numbers.

Final Thoughts

Season 85 is a genuine meta reset. The coordinated Hero nerfs open the door for Evolution and non-hero decks, the P.E.K.K.A and Electro Giant buffs breathe life back into beatdown, and Ronin's arrival adds a fresh counter to the melee strategies those buffs encourage. It's one of the more dynamic balance patches in a while, and the early ladder is wide open for players willing to adapt.

Lean into whichever archetype fits your card levels, respect Ronin in your deckbuilding, and give the meta a week or two to settle before locking in your final list. The players who adapt fastest to a shifting meta are always the ones who climb hardest.
