AFK Journey Enhance Force Upgrades: Full List & Best Characters to Prioritize

As AFK Journey evolves season after season, older heroes risk falling behind the ever-shifting meta. The Enhance Force system addresses this directly - it's a targeted buff mechanism designed to revitalize underperforming characters and push strong ones further into relevance. Knowing which heroes to upgrade first can mean the difference between clearing content comfortably and wasting one of the game's most limited resources.

Whether you're a veteran optimizing your roster or a returning player catching up, OLD STORE is a reliable platform to top up your account and accelerate your progress.

What Is the Enhance Force System?

Enhance Force is a level 2 upgrade layer available to select heroes in AFK Journey. To activate it, a character must first reach Supreme+ rank. Once there, you spend Shadow Essence - a seasonal currency earned through milestone progression - to unlock the enhancement.

Key mechanics at a glance:

• Requirement: Supreme+ ascension tier

• Currency: Shadow Essence (obtained via seasonal milestones)

• Effect: Provides a meaningful passive or active buff specific to that character

• Availability: Only certain heroes have this upgrade; not all characters qualify

• Pace: With enough time invested, every eligible character can eventually be upgraded

Shadow Essence is a slow-accumulating resource, which makes priority decisions critical. You won't be able to upgrade everyone at once, so understanding which characters deliver the highest return is essential.

Best Characters to Prioritize for Enhance Force

Shadow Essence is scarce early in a season. Focus on heroes that are already strong and used frequently across multiple game modes.

Tier 1 - Upgrade Immediately

Niru (Support)

Niru sits at the top of the priority list despite his moderate overall tier rating. His Enhance Force upgrade significantly improves his healing and temporary immortality combo, making it far more consistent in PvE content. His EX weapon already makes him viable; the Enhance Force upgrade pushes him into reliable territory.

Bryon (DPS)

One of the most versatile damage dealers in the game, Bryon performs at an S-tier level across all game phases. His Enhance Force upgrade adds further punch to his Falcon summon mechanics and debuffing kit. If Bryon is on your main team - and for most players he should be - this is a day-one investment.

Dionel (DPS)

Dionel is a late-game powerhouse who scales exceptionally well when properly buffed. His Enhance Force upgrade amplifies his already high damage ceiling, making him even more destructive in supported compositions. If you've invested in Dionel, this is non-negotiable.

Vala (DPS)

A dual-form assassin who targets enemy backlines, Vala rates S+ in late game and is excellent in PvP. Her Enhance Force upgrade improves survivability and output in both forms. She's a staple in high-level compositions and pays dividends across AFK Stages and Arena alike.

Tier 2 - Prioritize if They're on Your Core Team

Scarlita (Mage)

Scarlita is a strong late-game mage whose true power is gated behind upgrades. The Enhance Force buff compounds her existing shield and damage loop, particularly effective in PvP and story stages.

Antandra (Tank)

The top A-rank tank with excellent CC and shield capabilities. If you run double-tank comps, upgrading Antandra's Enhance Force is well worth it. She's especially strong in mid and late-game PvE.

Granny Dahnie (Tank)

Granny Dahnie (Tank) A surprisingly effective tank who can sometimes outperform Thoran in specific matchups. Her Enhance Force upgrade bolsters her self-sustain and enemy debuffing, making her harder to burst down.

Lyca (Mage)

A flexible support-damage hybrid who buffs allies and debuffs enemies simultaneously. Lyca's Enhance Force upgrade improves her AoE output and buffing effectiveness — a solid pick if she's part of your regular rotation.

Tier 3 - Situational or Lower-Priority Upgrades

These heroes benefit from Enhance Force but are either niche, outclassed, or used less frequently in top-tier compositions:

• Walker — Strong CC, but moderate DPS limits his value

• Satrana — Anti-healing niche; useful in specific metas

• Rhys — Solid all-arounder, best in Dream Realm; upgrade if you use him there

• Mirael — Low overall impact; upgrade only after higher priorities are done

• Salazer, Atalanta, Hodgkin, Dunlingr, Callan, Nara, Soren, Valka — Functional upgrades but unlikely to shift your meta performance significantly

Best Team Compositions Using Enhance Force Heroes

Combining multiple Enhance Force-upgraded heroes amplifies team synergy. Here are three strong compositions:

Composition 1 - Late-Game PvE / AFK Stages
Dionel · Vala · Lyca · Antandra · Niru High-damage core with layered sustain and CC. Niru and Antandra anchor the team's survivability; Dionel and Vala dish out scaled damage.

Composition 2 — PvP / Arena

Bryon · Scarlita · Vala · Antandra · Granny Dahnie Double-tank with hard-hitting backline. Bryon's debuffs and Scarlita's shields create space for Vala to execute.

Composition 3 — Dream Realm Bosses

Rhys · Lyca · Bryon · Scarlita · Niru Rhys provides single-target burst; Lyca and Bryon stack enemy debuffs; Scarlita and Niru sustain the run.

How to Farm Shadow Essence Efficiently

Shadow Essence is tied directly to seasonal milestone progression. The fastest routes:

• Complete seasonal story chapters - each milestone block rewards Shadow Essence

• Push AFK Stages - higher stages unlock milestone tiers faster

• Participate in seasonal events - bonus milestones occasionally tied to limited-time content

• Daily and weekly missions - steady trickle of season progression XP

There is no direct purchase path for Shadow Essence with in-game premium currency, so progression-pacing is everything.

Conclusion

The Enhance Force system is one of the most impactful ways to extend the lifespan and performance of your existing roster in AFK Journey. Rather than chasing every new banner, investing Shadow Essence into top-priority heroes like Niru, Bryon, Dionel, and Vala pays consistent dividends across PvE, PvP, and Dream Realm content. With the upcoming additions of Temesia and Florabelle, the system will only grow more relevant heading into future seasons.
