Marvel Rivals Age of Apocalypse Battle Pass: Skins and Rewards

Season 9's Age of Apocalypse Battle Pass drops July 10 with a fresh batch of hero skins, MVP animations, and currency. Here's how the pass works, what to expect, and whether the Luxury upgrade is worth your Lattice.

Everything Coming in the Marvel Rivals Season 9 Pass

Season 9 lands on July 10, 2026, and with it comes a brand-new Battle Pass built around the Age of Apocalypse — the darkest, most villain-driven arc Marvel Rivals has run so far. If you're wondering what skins are packed inside, how much it costs, and whether it's worth grabbing the Luxury upgrade, this guide breaks it all down.

Here's the honest part up front: the Season 8 Project: Heroic Age pass expires the moment Season 9 begins, so anything you haven't claimed there is gone. The new Age of Apocalypse pass takes its place with a fresh reward track, and while the full skin lineup confirms at launch, everything we know about how the pass works and what to expect is laid out below so you can plan your Chrono Token spending from day one.

Quick note before we dive in — if you're planning to grab the Luxury Pass or top up Lattice for the new season, OLD STORE has the best Marvel Rivals rates around, up to 22% off the in-game store. If you want to top up Marvel Rivals, head to OLD STORE and load up before the pass goes live so you're ready on launch day.

Let's get into it.

When Does the Age of Apocalypse Pass Launch?

The Age of Apocalypse Battle Pass goes live with Season 9 on July 10, 2026 at 9:00 AM UTC, the exact moment Season 8.5 ends. Expect roughly two to three hours of maintenance at launch, so the pass and its rewards become accessible for most regions a little later that morning.

The pass runs for the full duration of Season 9 — following NetEase's tight 2026 cadence of roughly four-week seasons. That gives you a set window to earn Chrono Tokens and unlock rewards, though as we'll cover below, the Luxury tier's non-expiry feature takes a lot of the deadline pressure off.

How the Battle Pass System Works

Before getting into what's inside, here's how Marvel Rivals Battle Passes function — because understanding the structure is what lets you spend efficiently.

The Three Tiers

Every Marvel Rivals Battle Pass, including Age of Apocalypse, comes in three tiers:

Free Tier Open to all players. You earn and spend Chrono Tokens to unlock a limited selection of rewards. Not everything on the track is available here, but there's always some free value to claim.

Luxury Tier (990 Lattice) The standard premium pass. It unlocks the ability to redeem every reward on the track — all the hero skins, MVP animations, and premium cosmetics.

Upgraded Luxury Tier (2,100 Lattice) Everything the Luxury tier offers, plus an instant 2,800 Chrono Tokens and a 20% acquisition bonus on all Chrono Tokens earned for the rest of the season. This is the "head start" option for players short on time.

Chrono Tokens and the Page System

You unlock rewards by spending Chrono Tokens, earned through Daily Missions, Seasonal Challenges, and Event Missions throughout Season 9. The pass is split into pages, and you progress by cumulatively earning tokens — spending them on rewards doesn't set back your page unlocks, so earning naturally advances both at once.

The Non-Expiry Advantage

Here's the single best thing about Marvel Rivals passes: once you buy a Luxury Battle Pass, it never expires. You can keep unlocking its rewards in future seasons even if you don't finish everything during Season 9. That means there's no need to panic-grind before the season ends — a rare bit of mercy in the live-service world.

What Skins and Rewards to Expect

Now for what you actually came for. NetEase reveals the complete skin lineup at launch, but based on the Age of Apocalypse theme and every prior season's structure, here's what the pass will deliver.

Hero Costumes

Every recent Battle Pass has included around 10 full hero costumes, and Age of Apocalypse will follow that pattern. Given the arc centers on Apocalypse and pulls heavily from the X-Men corner of the Marvel universe, expect the skin lineup to lean into that darker, mutant-focused theme.

The Season 8.5 Gallery Cards have been seeding this storyline for weeks, with Apocalypse positioned as the central villain reshaping a collapsing timeline. Heroes tied to that narrative — particularly X-Men and characters drawn into Apocalypse's conflict — are the most likely candidates for themed costumes. Comic-based outfits are also expected across several characters this season.

Since the exact roster of skinned heroes confirms with the launch trailer, the smart move is to check which of your mains are featured before committing your Chrono Tokens — more on that strategy below.

MVP Animations

The pass will include MVP animations — the end-of-match showcases that play when you're the standout performer. Like skins, these are tied to specific heroes, so they only deliver value on characters you actually play.

Profile Cosmetics

Expect the usual assortment of nameplates, emotes, sprays, and gallery cards scattered across the pages. These are lower-impact filler rewards, but they round out the track and let you personalize your profile.

Currency Rewards

One of the quietly best parts of any pass — Units, Lattice, and Unstable Molecules are distributed across the reward pages. These help fund future cosmetics, next season's pass, and custom Chromas, making them some of the most practically valuable rewards in the whole track.

New Heroes Tied to the Season

While not strictly Battle Pass rewards, the Age of Apocalypse season introduces new heroes whose arrival shapes which skins matter most.

Jubilee is expected to join at launch as the game's 52nd hero, with her role widely leaked as Strategist (though her explosive plasma "fireworks" kit could fit a Duelist too). Her story ties into a desperate search for a cure for her son.

The Hood is expected in the mid-season 9.5 update, roughly four weeks later, leaked as a Vanguard drawn into the conflict through the cloak of Oblivion.

Keep in mind that while the July 10 date and Age of Apocalypse theme are confirmed via the in-game roadmap, the specific heroes and their roles remain well-sourced leaks until NetEase's official reveal. Apocalypse himself, like past seasonal villains, is expected to stay a story antagonist rather than a playable character.

Is the Age of Apocalypse Pass Worth Buying?

This is the question that actually matters, and the answer depends entirely on your hero pool and how much you play.

Buy the Luxury Pass If:

You play several of the heroes featured in the pass, you enjoy collecting themed cosmetics, and you log in regularly enough to earn out the track. At 990 Lattice for a stack of hero costumes, MVP animations, profile items, and currency — plus the non-expiry safety net — it's strong value for active players who like the skins.

Consider the Upgraded Luxury If:

You're short on time this season and want a head start. The 2,100 Lattice tier's instant 2,800 Chrono Tokens and 20% earning bonus help you clear the track faster. But if you play regularly, you'll earn those tokens through normal play anyway — most active players are better off with the standard Luxury pass.

Skip It If:

You barely play Marvel Rivals, none of the featured skins are for your mains, or you'd rather save your Lattice for a specific store costume. There's no shame in sitting a pass out if the lineup doesn't excite you.

How to Decide Once the Skins Drop

When the launch trailer reveals the full lineup on July 10:

1. Check which heroes get costumes and cross-reference against your most-played characters
2. Count how many of your mains are featured — three or more usually justifies the Luxury pass
3. Look at skin rarity and VFX — Legendary costumes with unique ability effects add far more value than simple recolors
4. Factor in the currency — the Units and Lattice in the pass offset part of its cost

Tips to Maximize Your Battle Pass Progress

Clear Season 8 First

Before Season 9 flips over on July 10, make sure you've claimed everything from the Project: Heroic Age pass and spent any leftover Chrono Tokens. Once the season ends, that earning window closes for good. Don't leave free rewards behind chasing the shiny new pass.

Run Your Daily Missions

Daily Missions are your most consistent Chrono Token source. Clearing them every day keeps you on pace to finish the Age of Apocalypse track without a last-week scramble.

Prioritize Costumes for Your Mains First

When spending Chrono Tokens, unlock the skins for heroes you actually play before anything else. Costumes are the highest-value rewards, and grabbing one for a hero you never touch is wasted progress.

Don't Sleep on Event Missions

Season 9 will run its own events — and the delayed Avengers: Age of Ultron event is expected in late July — each with mission tracks that hand out bonus Chrono Tokens. Check the Events tab regularly so you're capturing every token source.

Final Thoughts

The Age of Apocalypse Battle Pass brings a fresh reward track to Marvel Rivals' darkest season yet, landing July 10 with the usual stacked lineup of hero costumes, MVP animations, profile cosmetics, and currency. While the full skin list confirms at launch, the pass system itself is well-established: three tiers, Chrono Token progression, and that all-important non-expiry feature that takes the deadline stress off the Luxury pass.

Clear your Season 8 rewards before the switch, run your dailies once the new pass is live, and prioritize costumes for the heroes you actually play. Do that and you'll get maximum value out of the Age of Apocalypse track — whether you're chasing every skin or just the ones for your mains.

And when you're ready to grab the Luxury Pass or top up Lattice, OLD STORE has the best Marvel Rivals rates around — up to 22% off means more skins for the same money.

See you in the Age of Apocalypse, Rival.
