Seven Knights Re:BIRTH Pathfinder Rudy Build Guide

Pathfinder Rudy is the first Seven Knights hero to get Awakening in Re:BIRTH — a sturdier tank who shields your whole team. Here's his best build, skill priority, and the defensive teams he anchors.

The First Awakened Knight Is a Wall

If you've been building a defensive core in Seven Knights Re:BIRTH, the July update just handed you a serious upgrade. [Pathfinder] Rudy — the awakened form of Rudy — is here, and he's the first member of the Seven Knights to receive an Awakening. As a defense-type hero, he's designed to be a near-unbreakable tank that brings enhanced durability and fresh strategic value to defensive team comps.

What makes Rudy special isn't raw stats — it's what he does for everyone around him. His whole identity is spreading damage across the party, boosting team defense from the opening bell, and keeping your squad standing through burst that would normally wipe you. This guide breaks down exactly how to build him, which skills to prioritize, and the defensive teams where he shines brightest.

Quick note before we dive in — if you're planning to top up Rubies to chase heroes during the Month of 7K events, OLD STORE is the cheapest and most reliable way to do it. If you want to top up Seven Knights Re:BIRTH, head to OLD STORE and load up while the summon events are live.

Let's build the wall.

Who Is Pathfinder Rudy?

Before the build, here's what makes him tick.

Rudy is a Mythic defense-type hero and a member of the Seven Knights. His base version was already a one-of-a-kind unit — he uses Link to spread incoming damage evenly across the entire party, so no single ally gets bursted down. Pair that with a Defense Boost passive and the ability to grant Crowd Control Immunity, and he functions as a durability support that holds a whole team together.

With his Awakening into [Pathfinder] Rudy, that durability goes up another level. The awakened form makes him an even sturdier tank and adds a skill that reduces enemy Awakening Gauges — a genuinely valuable disruption tool against other awakened threats. His kit became slightly less specialized than before, but far more versatile, which means he now fits into far more team compositions than his original niche allowed.

What Changed With Awakening

The base Rudy's strength used to be a highly situational Skill 1 — it could almost guarantee a Stun while cutting the target's buff duration by 3 turns, which was fantastic in specific scenarios (like shutting down Sun Wukong in Guild War) but narrow overall.

Awakening traded some of that specialization for consistency. The biggest improvement is the increased availability of Link. Thanks to his awakened passive, Rudy now grants Link and a Defense Increase to all allies right at the start of battle — making it dramatically easier to survive the opening burst from physical teams. That opening-turn protection is the core reason he's so valuable now.

Pathfinder Rudy's Skills

Understanding his kit is the foundation for building him correctly.

Passive — The Star of the Show

Rudy's passive is what earns him a slot. At the start of battle, he grants Link and a Defense Increase to all allies, immediately hardening your whole team against burst. Link spreads incoming damage across the party so your squishier carries don't get instantly deleted, while the defense buff raises everyone's survivability floor. This front-loaded protection is exactly what defensive comps need against aggressive physical teams.

Crowd Control Immunity and Utility

Beyond raw durability, Rudy brings real utility. He can grant Crowd Control Immunity to keep your team acting freely, shorten enemy buff durations, and remove debuffs from allies. That combination makes him a strong counter to both buff-reliant and debuff-reliant enemy teams — he doesn't just tank, he disrupts.

Awakened Skill — Awakening Gauge Reduction

His awakened form adds a skill that reduces enemy Awakening Gauges, slowing down how fast opposing awakened heroes come online. In a meta increasingly built around Awakening, denying the enemy their power spike is a subtle but powerful edge.

Best Pathfinder Rudy Build

Since Rudy is a pure durability anchor, your build should lean entirely into keeping him alive and maximizing his protective output. Here's how to gear him.

Best Equipment Sets

To keep Rudy effective from the first turn to the last, prioritize one of these equipment sets based on what your team needs most:

Paladin — for maximum HP, giving him the largest health pool to soak damage
Gatekeeper — for a higher Block Rate, letting him negate more incoming hits outright
Guardian — for increased Defense, hardening him against physical damage

There's no single "correct" pick — choose based on the content. Against heavy physical burst, Guardian or Gatekeeper shine; when you simply need the biggest wall possible, Paladin's HP is king.

Stat Priority

Build Rudy the way you'd build any frontline anchor:

Defense and HP first — these are his bread and butter; the tankier he is, the longer his Link and buffs keep your team alive
Block Rate — pairs beautifully with the Gatekeeper set to negate hits entirely
Damage Taken Reduction — stacks with his defensive kit for extreme survivability
Don't invest in offensive stats — Rudy isn't a damage dealer; points spent on attack are points wasted

The goal is simple: an immovable wall that survives long enough to keep Link and his defense buff active through the entire fight.

Formation Placement

As a defense type, Rudy belongs in the Front Row, where he's most likely to be targeted — which is exactly what you want, since he spreads that damage across the party anyway. Placing him up front lets him absorb aggro while his Link protects your back-row carries.

Best Defensive Teams for Pathfinder Rudy

Rudy's real value comes out in team building. He's a plug-and-play durability anchor who can slot into most sustain-focused comps. Here's where he shines.

Rudy + Aris (The Premier Pairing)

The standout combo this update is Rudy alongside the new Legendary hero [Earthen Aura] Aris, a Pentagon member designed as a damage dealer for defensive teams. Aris has high — but not unbreakable — durability, and her damage ramps the longer a battle lasts. That's a perfect match for Rudy: he protects her through the early game so she survives into the mid-to-late stages where her awakened passive makes her a nightmare for physical teams to deal with.

If Aris can't survive the opening burst on her own, pairing her with an awakened Rudy is the go-to solution. He keeps her alive long enough to come online, and once she does, the fight is usually decided.

Sustain Teams for Total War and Guild War

Rudy's biggest strength in the current meta is enabling multiple sustain teams at once. In content that requires several parties — like Total War and Guild War — you can't put your best defense-type in every team. Rudy fills that gap.

A strong Total War approach is building two parties: one centered on your premium defense-type core, and a second built around Rudy and Sun Wukong. This lets you field two durable, self-sustaining teams instead of one, dramatically improving your multi-party content clears. His sustain-team pairing options mirror Aris's, so he slots naturally alongside other long-battle specialists.

Where Rudy Fits (and Where He Doesn't)

Be realistic about his role. In Arena, the defense-type slot is often dominated by Radgrid, which can make it hard to fit Rudy into your single best PvP team. But that's the only place he struggles for a slot — everywhere else, he's exceptional.

For general content, Rudy is effective in nearly everything. As a durability support, he fits any battle, and when you're stuck on a difficult stage, dropping Rudy in often provides the survivability that finally pushes you through. He can also make an immediate impact simply by replacing a weaker member of an existing tank team.

How to Get Pathfinder Rudy for Free

Here's the best part — you don't have to gamble for him. The Month of 7K: Rudy's Awakening event, running now as part of the Month of 7K celebration, hands you everything you need.

Through the event, you can receive:

A fully ranked-up and enhanced Rudy
Brilliant Skill Enhancement Stone
Awakening Stone
Rudy's Dedicated Equipment
Four pieces of equipment suited for Rudy

Once you collect the event rewards, you can complete all the steps required for Rudy's Awakening. In other words, the game is essentially giving you a fully-built awakened tank for free — just for participating in the anniversary events. Don't sleep on this.

While you're at it, the broader Month of 7K events are worth clearing too: the Check-In event alone gives 77 summon vouchers per day for seven days (539 total), and the Special Summon lets you pick from a smaller, focused pool of Wish Heroes for better odds at the units you actually want.

Tips for Using Pathfinder Rudy Effectively

Lead With His Defense Buff

Rudy's power is front-loaded — his opening Link and defense boost are what carry you through early burst. Set up your skill queue so his protective effects are active from the very first turns, especially against fast physical teams.

Use Him to Build a Second Sustain Team

Don't just slot Rudy into your main team and stop there. His real meta value is letting you run two durable parties in Total War and Guild War. If you've been bottlenecked by only having one good tank, Rudy solves that overnight.

Pair Him With Ramp-Up Carries

Rudy is at his best protecting damage dealers who get stronger over time — like Aris. Any carry whose value scales with battle length benefits enormously from the extra turns Rudy's durability buys them.

Don't Force Him Into Arena Over Radgrid

If Radgrid already holds your Arena defense slot, that's fine — leave him there. Rudy's strength is everywhere else, particularly multi-team content. Use him where he's uncontested rather than benching your proven Arena tank.

Final Thoughts

[Pathfinder] Rudy is a fantastic first Awakening for Seven Knights Re:BIRTH — a versatile, team-wide durability anchor who shields your whole party from the opening turn, disrupts enemy buffs and Awakening Gauges, and enables multiple sustain teams in the content that matters most. Build him with Paladin, Gatekeeper, or Guardian depending on your needs, stack Defense and HP, and pair him with ramp-up carries like Aris to get the most out of his protection.

Best of all, the Month of 7K event is handing him to you fully built for free, so there's zero reason not to add him to your roster right now. Get him awakened, slot him into your defensive core, and watch your survivability climb across every mode.

And when you're ready to top up Rubies to chase more heroes during the anniversary events, OLD STORE has the best Seven Knights Re:BIRTH rates around — more value for every summon.

Stand firm out there, Knight.
